Resurfacing: Sale Barn Road

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Sale Barn Road.

What: Work will involve removal and replacement of a corrugated steel pipe culvert. Increased noise levels to be expected in order to facilitate the work. Access to all driveways will be maintained.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.

When: This work is expected to occur between July 24 and 26. The work is expected to take 2 days and reopened to traffic upon completion. 

Where: The following roadway will involve a full closure:

  • Sale Barn Road from Mitch Owens Drive to Parkway Road

Traffic interruptions may also be experienced due to flagging operations. 

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, GIP Paving Inc, to complete the work.

On-street parking

As the various road reconstruction activities are in progress on your street, on-street parking may be restricted. In the event that access to your driveway will be impacted, you will receive 24-hours’ notice and provided with a Temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) to permit on-street parking within two blocks of your residence. Residents with electric vehicles will need to find alternative charging arrangements when access is restricted. The use of extension cords within the public right of way is not permitted.

Should you have additional concerns about reduced access, such as business deliveries or accessibility requirements, please contact the project manager listed below.

Traffic management

To accommodate the proposed construction, various lane reductions, alternating traffic and/or detours can be expected. Access to local businesses and private properties will be maintained throughout the construction period. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will also be maintained.

Night work: 2024 Large Diameter CCTV & MSI Sewer Inspection Program

The City of Ottawa will be completing CCTV & MSI sewer inspections at sewer maintenance hole (MHSA01190), located on the right of way at 6070 Voyageur Drive.

The City of Ottawa is continuing its commitment to provide CCTV sewer inspection work in the area of 6070 Voyageur Drive. As part of the inspection work, the City will have a contractor setting up at the entrance to the sewer maintenance hole for a CCTV/MSI robot inspection within the City right of way. Cables will be required to be laid across the resident’s driveway.

What: Completing condition assessments of the large diameter sewers using CCTV & MSI inspection methods.   

Why: To determine the condition of the existing infrastructure to maintain critical services to City residents.

When: This nighttime work is scheduled for July 21 until July 24. Work will be conducted at night between 8 pm and 6 am as it is necessary to do the work during low sewer flows. Should additional time be required, the contingency dates are July 28 to July 31.

Where: Sewer maintenance hole located at 6070 Voyageur Drive.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained Andrews Engineer to complete the work

City Hall Security Enhancements, Phase 2

The City of Ottawa is undertaking improvements at Ottawa City Hall for the enhanced security of all residents, staff and visitors to 110 Laurier Avenue West. This notice is to inform you of upcoming construction activities to install security bollards at the Lisgar entrance to the facility. 

All precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of the local community during construction activities. Please watch for signs and follow all instructions by onsite personnel during this time.

What: Installation of security bollards across the Lisgar Street entrance of City Hall. The contractor will install the bollards in 2 phases to maintain access throughout the construction period.  

Why: To provide vehicle intrusion protection to the facility, and to control vehicle access.

When: The work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 17 and is to continue until mid September 2024. No road closures or access lane closures are anticipated as part of this construction.

Where: The bollards are being installed across the Lisgar Street entrance of Ottawa City Hall adjacent to the building, within the drop-off loop area. 

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the Contractor, Arrow Property Services, to complete the work.

Traffic impacts

No road closures are expected and the Lisgar entrance will remain open to City Hall. An accessible path will be maintained at all times.

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties

You may feel vibrations at your home or business due to the use of the heavy equipment needed to complete this work. This is quite common and not usually a problem.

Property damage caused by construction activities

As part of this contract, the Contractor is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until it is entirely complete as well as any damages to private property resulting from these construction activities. In the event of such occurrences, all claims for damages should be immediately reported both verbally and in writing to the Contractor’s Representative and to the Contract Administrator. This will ensure prompt notification of appropriate authorities to complete the claim investigations.

Noise

Some noise may take place throughout the duration of the proposed work, normally during the hours of 7 am and 10 pm. For construction activity hours of work, the City of Ottawa follows provincial requirements and the City’s Noise By-law (2017-255).

Resurfacing: Old Innes Road

The City of Ottawa’s road resurfacing program rehabilitates and improves the driving surfaces of Ottawa’s roadways. Localized repairs to both curbs and sidewalks, along with accessibility improvements and updates, are also part of the program.

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along OId Innes Road to improve this roadway and the overall citywide transportation network.

What: Work will involve lowering the existing roadway by milling and excavation. Granular will be added once excavated and paving of a binder course and surface asphalt will follow. Increased noise levels and vibrations to be expected to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.

When: This work is scheduled to start Wednesday, July 17 and completion is anticipated by fall 2024. Work will take place between the hours of 7 am to 10 pm as required. Old Innes Road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected. 

WhereWork will occur along Old Innes Road from Bantree Street to 110m West of Bantree Street. 

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the Contractor, R.W. Tomlinson Limited, to resurface Old Innes Road.

If you own a subsurface lawn irrigation system, we encourage residents to contact the undersigned to identify and confirm that private irrigations systems have been disconnected or relocated. 

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties 

The reconstruction is within the City’s right of way but may result in some disruption to part of the private property directly adjacent to the work. The City of Ottawa will reinstate all sections of landscaping, driveways and walkways that are disturbed by construction. However, if you have plants or any other assets located within the City’s right of way that you want to preserve, we suggest that you may want to move them in preparation for the construction work.

When: This work is scheduled to start Monday July 15 and completion is anticipated by fall 2024. Work will take place between the hours of 7 am to 10 pm as required. Tremblay Road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected.

When: This work is expected to occur between July 15 and August 9, 2024.

The road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected. Traffic control personnel will direct traffic through the site.

Where: The following roadway will be resurfaced during daytime hours (7 am to 10 pm) and will involve minor lane interruptions:

Weekend work is anticipated for all locations and traffic interruptions may also be experienced due to flagging operations.

Renewal of 18 medium culverts

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, rural road culvert replacements will occur to improve drainage and roadways. This notice is to advise that construction in your neighbourhood will be undertaken in summer 2024. This work is being conducted to complete culvert rehabilitation/replacements.

What: Work will involve rehabilitation or replacement of the culvert beneath the roadway, and asphalt resurfacing.

Why: The culverts have reached the end of their service life and require rehabilitation or replacement.

Étienne Road bridge structure renewal, construction start and road closure (July 22 to October 2024)

Starting in mid-July 2024, the City of Ottawa is beginning the structural rehabilitation of the culvert at the west end of Étienne Road. During this work, Étienne Road will be closed at the culvert and a detour will be put in place. This work is being conducted to help improve the roadways and surface drainage in your community.

What: The existing concrete culvert will be removed and replaced with a cast-in-place concrete culvert structure. To facilitate this construction, Étienne Road will be closed to through traffic. Local access for residents will remain open. 

Why: The culvert’s current condition is in need of repair. As a result, replacement is required to renew the service life of the structure. The road closure is required for the safety of the residents and workers. 

When: The Étienne Road closure will begin on Monday July 22 and will end in October 2024.

Where: The culvert is located on Étienne Road, approximately 0.13 kilometers east of Birchgrove Road and approximately 1.2 kilometers west of Canaan Road. 

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, GIP Paving Limited, to complete the work.

Traffic impacts

Signage will be installed to indicate that Étienne Road is closed to through traffic. During the full road closure, local access will be maintained. Local access is defined as those living within the limits of the road closure. All other motorists are required to follow the signed detours. The closure applies to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

West Urban 2 Resurfacing – Woodroffe Avenue

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Woodroffe Avenue.

What: Work will involve concrete works, milling of the existing surface, granular shouldering and roadway resurfacing. Increased noise levels to be expected in order to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.

When: This work is expected to begin during the week of July 2, with an expected completion date of August 30, 2024.

The road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected. Traffic control personnel will direct traffic through the site.

Where:   The following roadway will be subject to concrete repairs during daytime hours (7 am to 10 pm), resurfacing operations during nighttime hours (10 pm to 7 am) and will involve minor lane interruptions:

  • Woodroffe Avenue from Claridge Drive to Longfields Drive

Traffic interruptions may also be experienced due to flagging operations.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Thomas Cavanagh Construction Ltd., to complete the work.

We encourage residents to contact the undersigned to identify and confirm that private irrigations systems have been disconnected or relocated. Damage may occur, should you choose not to relocate prior to our arrival.

On-street parking 

As the various road reconstruction activities are in progress on your street, on-street parking may be restricted. In the event that access to your driveway will be impacted, you will receive 24-hours’ notice and provided with a Temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) to permit on-street parking within two blocks of your residence. Residents with electric vehicles will need to find alternative charging arrangements when access is restricted. The use of extension cords within the public right of way is not permitted. Should you have additional concerns about reduced access, such as business deliveries or accessibility requirements, please contact the project manager listed below.

Traffic management

To accommodate the proposed construction, various lane reductions, alternating traffic and/or detours can be expected. Access to local businesses and private properties will be maintained throughout the construction period. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will also be maintained.

Barnsdale Road and Rideau Valley Drive Intersection Modification and Signalization

Representatives of the City of Ottawa will be undertaking work in your neighbourhood.

What: Work will involve geotechnical borehole drilling equipment, operators and technicians to complete soil and groundwater sampling.

Why: The work is being performed in preparation for the modification and signalization of the Barnsdale Road and Rideau Valley Drive intersection.

When: Work is planned the week of July 15, weather dependent, and should take 2-3 days to complete.

Where: The work will take place within and on the approaches to the intersection of Barnsdale Road and Rideau Valley Drive.

Traffic

Lane reductions and/or lane shifts are anticipated during this work.

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties

This geotechnical work will require drilling boreholes and hand auger holes into the road surface, road shoulder, and roadside ditches, which will be reinstated following drilling. It is not anticipated that private properties will be impacted by this geotechnical work.

Noise

You may notice noise during drilling. The City of Ottawa Noise By-law (2017-255) allows construction activity to occur weekdays between 7 am and 10 pm. On Saturdays, work is permitted between 7 am and 10 pm, while Sundays, statutory and public holidays work is permitted between 9 am and 10 pm.

Demolition: 22 Ladouceur Street

Starting in early July, demolition work of a city-owned property will be occurring in your neighborhood.

What: The house at 22 Ladouceur Street is owned by the City of Ottawa and will be demolished.

Why: This property is planned to be converted into parkland as part of an expansion to Armstrong Park. Consultation for the future park is anticipated to occur later in 2024.

When: This work will begin in the 2nd week of July and is expected to be completed by the end of August, 2024.

Where: 22 Ladouceur Street, approximately mid-block between Garland and Merton streets

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties

The demolition work will occur within the City’s right of way and on a city-owned property. We anticipate some intermittent lane closures and loss of a few parking spaces on Ladouceur Street will be required for your safety during demolition and staging. Please watch for construction signs and flagging. The large trees on adjacent properties are to be retained and all efforts are being made to protect them from damage. Construction disruptions

Minimal construction impacts may be experienced including minor traffic delays adjacent to the construction zone and minor nuisances such as noise and dust. Cathodic protection of watermains - night work

This notice is to advise that the City of Ottawa will begin cathodic protection of watermain works in your neighbourhood. The construction will involve night work at the locations listed below.

What: Night work will involve cathodic protection which is accomplished by welding sacrificial anodes to the watermain at specified intervals to protect the pipe from corrosion. The work will be carried out at night to provide a safer operation to motorists and other road users.

Why: To increase longevity of existing underground infrastructure and to reduce the risk of watermain breaks, the City of Ottawa will be proceeding with the installation of anodes along the watermain pipe.

When: This work is expected to start at the end of July and completion is anticipated by mid-August. It will take approximately one to two days to complete at each location listed below. This work is expected to occur between 7 pm and 7 am the following morning.

Where: Work is expected to take place at various locations across the city at the following approximate timing:

Fire Station 42 – Parking lot and drive aisles resurfacing

Starting in early July 2024, resurfacing works will occur in your neighborhood.

What: The City of Ottawa will be re-paving the Fire Station 42 drive aisles and parking lot. The works also include accessibility upgrades to the front of the station.

Why: The current asphalt has reached the end of its service life.

  • The sidewalk will intermittently be closed on the southeast side of Teron Road, and on the northwest side of Penfield Drive. Pedestrians will be redirected, please watch for signage.

Resurfacing: Frank Kenny Road

The City of Ottawa’s road resurfacing program rehabilitates and improves the driving surfaces of Ottawa’s roadways. The implementation of rumble strips as part of the 2021-2024 Strategic Road Safety Action Plan (SRSAP) to decrease run-off-the-road incidents and mitigate fatal and major injury collisions in rural areas will be completed as part of the resurfacing. Localized repairs to both curbs and sidewalks, along with accessibility improvements and updates, are also part of the program.

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Frank Kenny Road to improve this roadway and the overall citywide transportation network.

What: Work will involve selective concrete repairs, milling, pulverizing, placement of granular material, and paving of binder and surface asphalt. Increased noise levels and vibrations to be expected to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.

When: This work is scheduled to start early July 2024 and completion is anticipated by fall 2024. Work will take place between the hours of 7 am and 10 pm as required. The road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected.

Where: Work will occur along Frank Kenny Road from Russell Road to Colonial Road.

Hazeldean Local Watermain – Castlefrank Road to Irwin Gate (project notice)

This notice is to advise that construction in your neighbourhood will be starting in late summer 2024.

Work will span from the intersection of Castlefrank Road and Hazeldean Road to the intersection of Irwin Gate and Hazeldean Road. This project will include the installation of a new local watermain, the connection of water services to this new main and reinstatement of the roadway.

What: The City of Ottawa is undertaking the installation of a new 300 mm local watermain throughout the project limits.

Why: The City is installing a new local watermain in this area to transfer services from the 900 mm watermain that currently services properties on this section of Hazeldean Road to enable condition assessments and repairs of the larger network main as required.

When: This work is planned to commence in late summer 2024 and will be completed by the end of 2025.

Where: Work will occur on Hazeldean Road between Castlefrank Road and Irwin Gate.

Who: The City of Ottawa has engaged Robinson Consultants Inc. to develop the design and tender for the new local watermain. The City of Ottawa will soon be posting the tender for a contractor to complete the work.

Coordination

Each property is requested to contact the City project manager for the coordination of access from Hazeldean Road and to schedule water service connections.

Traffic management

During construction, lane reductions will be required. Hazeldean Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The lanes will be shifted to the south side of Hazeldean Road. Temporary signal modifications will be made at the traffic signal to 457 Hazeldean Road (Farm Boy) to accommodate this shift.

Access to private properties will be maintained throughout the construction period. Pedestrian detours will be signed at times when it is necessary to close sidewalks. A notice to the public will be provided prior to the construction start and lane reductions.

Culvert replacement: Ward 1

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, rural road culvert replacements will occur to improve drainage and roadways. This notice is to advise that construction in your neighbourhood will be undertaken in summer 2024. This work is being conducted to complete the replacement of one culvert.

What: The culvert North end will be replaced using open-cut construction.  

Why: The culvert had an extension added prior to the road widening which has reached end of life and requires replacement. No replacement required for the culvert under the OR 174.

When: This work is planned to begin this summer and completion is anticipated by the end of August 2024.

Where: The following streets will be impacted:

One-week short duration one lane flagging off peak hours:

Who: The City has retained the contractor, Goldie Mohr Ltd, to complete the work.

Traffic impacts

In order to safely complete this work, road closures as well as night and weekend work may be required to limit traffic impacts. A signed detour route will be provided.

The affected roads will have information and construction signs installed and maintained throughout the construction sites for the duration of the replacement to keep you informed of the changing conditions. Expect some delays in your travel time over the course of these repairs. Significant effort is being made to reduce the duration of the construction impacts in your community.

Culvert replacements: Ward 19

2023 Sidewalk repairs – city wide: Stoneway Drive

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, sidewalk construction will begin in July and continue until late November 2024.

What: Work will involve reconstructing existing concrete sidewalk facilities, installation of tactile walking surface indicators, and catch basin and iron adjustments as required. Increased noise levels are to be expected to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be reconstructing concrete sidewalks that are in poor condition, with the objective of improving the City’s existing sidewalk network for pedestrians.

When: This work is expected to start in July and completion of work is anticipated by late November 2024.

The road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected. Traffic interruptions may also be experienced due to flagging operations.

Resurfacing: Fallowfield Road (Huntley Road to Munster Road)

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Fallowfield Road.

What: Work will involve pulverizing the existing surface, granular material placement, adjustment of maintenance holes, and roadway resurfacing. Increased noise levels to be expected in order to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.

When: The road will be closed from Tuesday, July 2, until Friday August 16, 2024. Minor works may continue beyond the closure period to the end of summer 2024.

Where: The following roadway will be resurfaced during the day and will involve a road closure within the working limits:

  • Fallowfield Road from Huntley Road (OR 5) to Munster Road (OR 45)

Traffic will be detoured via Flewellyn Road. Local residential traffic and northbound/southbound traffic on Conley Road will be maintained at all times.

Resurfacing: Old Richmond Road

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Old Richmond Road (OR 59).

Where: The following roadway will be resurfaced during the day and night and will involve minor lane interruptions:

  • Old Richmond Road (OR 59) from 170 metres north of West Hunt Club Road (OR 52) to Seyton Drive

Traffic interruptions may be experienced due to flagging operations.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Thomas Cavanagh Construction Limited, to complete the work.

We encourage residents to contact the undersigned to identify and confirm that private irrigations systems have been disconnected or relocated. Damage may occur, should you choose not to relocate prior to our arrival.

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties

The construction is within the City’s right of way but may result in some disruption to part of the private property directly adjacent to the work. The City will reinstate sections of landscaping, driveways and walkways that are disturbed by construction. However, if you have plants or any other assets located within the City’s right of way that you want to preserve, we suggest that you move them in preparation for the construction work. If you own a subsurface lawn irrigation system or heated driveway system, please notify the City’s Project Manager.

On-street parking

As the various road reconstruction activities are in progress on your street, on-street parking may be restricted. In the event that access to your driveway will be impacted, you will receive 24-hours’ notice and provided with a Temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) to permit on-street parking within two blocks of your residence. Residents with electric vehicles will need to find alternative charging arrangements when access is restricted. The use of extension cords within the public right of way is not permitted. Should you have additional concerns about reduced access, such as business deliveries or accessibility requirements, please contact the project manager listed below.

Resurfacing: Roger Stevens Drive

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Roger Stevens Drive.

What: Work will involve milling/pulverizing of the existing surface and roadway resurfacing. Increased noise levels to be expected in order to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.
